Four ways to make your new flooring installation easier

Tuesday, January 12, 2021 6:09 PM

A new flooring installation can change an entire room's tone and can even add value to a property. There’s so much to know about all the colors, designs, and styles. We’re here to simplify it for you but don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions or concerns.

Explore needs, wants, and priorities

This includes examining the family size, extra durability, stain resistance needs, decorating style, and budget. Now figure out if you want a soft surface, such as a carpet installation, or a hard surface, such as hardwood or laminate. Or, you may want something that falls in the middle, such as luxury vinyl; technically a hard surface, this is often referred to as resilient because of its bouncy qualities.

Examine the room

Although it may look like a perfect square to you, it probably won’t be. There are door sills and moldings with which to contend. Let the professional measure it and communicate with the flooring expert about room size, shape, level of foot traffic, and amount of light.

Research

Familiarize yourself with some basic terms. For example, if you want a carpet installation, learn about fibers, construction, styles, and textures. If you’re looking for hardwood, learn about species, and understand other floorings' benefits and challenges, such as tile, laminate, and luxury vinyl.

Prepare!

There’s no such thing as over-preparing when it comes to installing a new floor. Ask questions such as what the estimate includes, who does what, how long it takes, if there are odors and dust, etc. If you have pets, be sure to ask about suggestions to keep them out of harm's way.
